Shanghai Lane is a hidden gem nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Happy Valley, Hong Kong. Located on 10 Min Fat Street, this cozy yet lively eatery is famous for its authentic Shanghai cuisine, offering a warm atmosphere perfect for enjoying traditional dishes that take you straight to the heart of China. From its distinctively flavorful dim sum to its expertly prepared dumplings, this spot promises a delightful culinary journey that will have you coming back for more.

The restaurant’s menu is a mix of popular Shanghai classics and lesser-known regional specialties, each dish crafted with care and the finest ingredients. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned visitor, you’ll find something to excite your taste buds. A must-try is their xiao long bao, the signature Shanghai soup dumpling. These delicate parcels of dough hold a rich, savory broth that bursts in your mouth with each bite. Paired with a tangy dipping sauce, they’re the perfect introduction to the flavors of Shanghai.

Another standout is their braised pork belly, a dish that exemplifies the sweet and savory balance that Shanghai cuisine is known for. The meat is tender, melting in your mouth with each bite, while the sauce is a perfect combination of soy, sugar, and spices that adds a complex depth of flavor. For those who enjoy a bit of spice, the spicy wontons are a crowd favorite, served in a savory, peppery sauce that perfectly complements the chewy dumplings.

Shanghai Lane doesn’t just focus on the food, though. The ambiance is casual yet inviting, with a modern touch that makes it perfect for both solo dining and group gatherings. The staff are friendly and attentive, ensuring that your dining experience is nothing short of delightful. The restaurant's décor is simple but elegant, creating a relaxed environment where you can enjoy your meal without distraction.

One of the things that sets Shanghai Lane apart from other local eateries is its dedication to authenticity. Whether it’s the wonton soup or the shanghai-style noodles, every dish feels like a piece of home for those familiar with the region’s cuisine. But even for newcomers, the flavors are easy to appreciate, making this restaurant an excellent choice for anyone curious about Shanghai's rich food culture.

For those planning to visit, Shanghai Lane offers a variety of seating options, from intimate tables for two to larger group settings, perfect for families or friends. If you’re looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion or just want to enjoy a casual meal with friends, this spot delivers on all fronts.

  • The Shanghainese bistro has an updated name - same chef and same service team. Dishes are mostly Shanghainese Chinese food and some updated menu included few Sichuan dishes.

  • Both the wonton soup and fried Shanghainese noodles are good quality and freshly made. We noticed couple of the waitresses making the wontons near the back. Service is ok.

  • To be honest, I was in Happy Valley because I wanted to check out this new rotisserie place which is quite similar to La Rotiszzxx. Anyway, since I was there, I stopped by Shanghai Lane which was well hidden but in a good way, there were less people dining there. Had two set lunches and extra tofu. The tofu was a bit too sweet for my liking but it was palatable. For the other lunch set, I actually wanted those dumplings because the dumplings are always good but the guy served the pork chops which were still ok I suppose, it had a lovely crispy coating while the meat was superficially tender. The star of the show was the tofu, I loved those salty pickled vegetables and salted egg pieces which were delicious with the rice.
